Breath of Life
The air in the garden carried with it a delightful, and indescribable, fragrance. Walking in the cool of the day He looked upon the beauty of His surroundings and saw it was perfect. As far as the eye could see lay a pallet of brilliant colors. Serenity and peace filled the open spaces. Abundant life, vibrant foliage, and crystal clear water were the backdrop of this estate. It was as they had envisioned when they set out to hand craft every detail in this place – it was the Garden of Eden.
Seeing that He had come to the very spot chosen before the beginning of time He began to slow His stride. He then slowly, and deliberately, reached down to grab a handful of dust from the ground. Some would have looked upon the dust now sitting in His hand as mere dirt, and of no value. He however gazed upon the dust held in His strong hands with intense love. He was well acquainted with it. He knew its structural make up, its point of conception, and where its eternal destiny lay. He had not only created it, He had chosen it.
It was at that moment silence fell across the garden. All creation stopped and watched as he lifted His hands up towards His face. He then slowly, and deliberately, began to breathe upon the dust He held. His breath of life filling and penetrating all He held in His hands.
All creation rejoiced as they looked upon the joy in their creator’s eyes. What had been mere dust, and clay, now stood upright before Him. The King loved what He saw before His eyes. So much so, He would one day give of His very life for him.
God can breathe life into every dead, dirty, and deemed invaluable, place in our hearts, and lives. He is not afraid to sit in the dirt with us, or go to the ends of the earth for us. He is the ultimate life giver, and life bearer. He is not intimated by our rough edges, or unlovely ways. He sees our full potential. He isn’t looking shamefully behind at our past, or scared away by our present. He is filled with joy, and delight, seeing us at the finish line.
139:1-5 O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. 2 You know when I sit or stand. When far away you know my every thought. 3 You chart the path ahead of me and tell me where to stop and rest. Every moment you know where I am. 4 You know what I am going to say before I even say it. 5 You both precede and follow me and place your hand of blessing on my head.
